Они несут ответственность за исправность различных типов самолетов. Авиационные специалисты осматривают, обслуживают, модифицируют и ремонтируют конструкции самолёта, двигатели и авионику. Во время обслуживания воздушного судна в ангаре, также проводится большой объем работ по осмотру, полному или частичному ремонту обшивки самолета, и удалению возникшей коррозии с элементов конструкции самолета. Авиационные специалисты по обслуживанию самолетов являются одним из ключевых звеньев в обеспечении безопасности полетов, деятельность которых, также как и сама безопасность полетов, регулируется Европейским Агентством Авиационной Безопасности (EASA).В авиационном законодательстве многих стран регулы EASA являются основополагающими. Первым шагом в получении профессии является освоение базовой программы обучения, программы обучения на тип самолета, включающие в себя теоретическую и практическую часть. Программа обучения охватывает инженерное дело, а также введение в авионику, авиационные конструкции, реактивные двигатели и системы. По окончании программы обучения студенты получают диплом авиационной школы и сертификаты EASA PART-66. Далее на пути к получению лицензии(AML – Aircraft Maintenance License) в течение 2 лет вы работаете на авиационных предприятиях, выполняя определенный тип работ, как результат вы получаете право подачи заявки на получение лицензии. AML – Aircraft Maintenance License авиационного специалиста по техническому обслуживанию воздушных судов является профессиональной вершиной в соответствии с которой, владелец квалифицируется как инженер по техническому обслуживанию и ремонту воздушных судов. Эта лицензия признана на международном уровне, в регламентации EASA - авиационный техни - механик категория В.1.,авиационный техник-авионик категория В.2.. Категория В.2. позволяет проводить технический осмотр авионики и электроники воздушного судна. И действительно, только специалист категории В.1. имеет допуск на технический осмотр воздушного судна с разрешением подписи Сертификата допуска к эксплуатации воздушного судна после технического осмотра (полномочия «Release to Service»). Стоить отметить, что в градации EASA существует категория А – Авиамеханик, обладатели данной категории имеют доступ только к выполнению небольших плановых работ и устранению несложных дефектов. Но представить выполнение технического обслуживания воздушного судна без представителей категории А невозможно.
